The New York Jets’ 42–10 loss to the New England Patriots on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2025, at MetLife Stadium included a significant individual milestone. Running back Breece Hall surpassed 1,000 rushing yards for the season, becoming the first Jets player to reach that mark in 10 years.

Hall entered Week 17 needing 46 rushing yards. He officially crossed the 1,000-yard threshold late in the third quarter on a six-yard run up the middle. Earlier in the game, another media outlet had incorrectly reported that he had already reached the milestone. On the first play of the fourth quarter, Hall followed with a 59-yard touchdown run, which accounted for the Jets’ only points.

New England led 42–3 after three quarters, and the loss dropped the Jets to 3–13 on the season. Hall finished with 111 rushing yards on 14 carries, averaging 9.3 yards per attempt.

It’s cool,” Hall said after the game. “It sucks that it had to happen in a loss or whatever. I felt like I should’ve got to that mark a few weeks ago, but there’s just been a lot going on here so it’s been tough.

The milestone came two seasons after Hall narrowly missed it in 2023, when he finished with 994 rushing yards. During Week 18 of that season, Hall was removed from the game after the Jets believed he had already reached 1,000 yards, which was later determined to be incorrect.

With this performance, Hall became the first Jets running back to rush for 1,000 yards since Chris Ivory did so in 2015. He is the ninth Jet all-time to reach the milestone, and it marked the 19th 1,000-yard rushing season produced by those players.

Head coach Aaron Glenn addressed Hall’s pursuit of the milestone earlier in the week. “He hadn’t got the 1,000, but I know he wants a win more than just a 1,000 right now,” Glenn said. “It’s a good accomplishment for him. But we have a lot of work to do in all three phases for me to say I’m gung-ho about 1,000 yards right now, to be honest with you.”

The Jets are scheduled to play the Buffalo Bills in Week 18 on Sunday, Jan. 4, 2026, with a 4:25 p.m. ET kickoff at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York. Early betting lines listed Buffalo as a heavy favorite, with opening spreads reaching Bills -11.5 and higher at some sportsbooks. As the week progressed, the spread moved lower. FanDuel and DraftKings showed the Bills at -7.5, while BetMGM and Caesars listed the line at -7. The game total moved from approximately 39.5 down to 38.5.

The betting movement coincided with uncertainty surrounding Buffalo’s approach to Week 18. Health developments also factored into the market. Bills quarterback Josh Allen underwent X-rays on his right foot following a 13–12 home loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, and the results were negative. Allen had been dealing with soreness from an injury sustained during a Dec. 21 win over the Cleveland Browns.

Late in the fourth quarter against New England, Hall sustained a knee injury and walked slowly off the field before heading to the locker room. He made brief remarks to reporters and did not return to the game.

Hall’s production this season has come alongside significant offensive limitations. The Jets have cycled through Justin Fields, Tyrod Taylor, and Brady Cook at quarterback, resulting in what has been identified as the worst passing attack in the NFL. Despite defenses frequently focusing on the run, Hall and the Jets’ offensive line generated enough consistency for him to reach the 1,000-yard mark.

The knee injury sustained against New England drew attention because of Hall’s history. As a rookie in 2022, he emerged as a central figure in the offense before suffering a season-ending knee injury in a road win over the Denver Broncos. Guard Alijah Vera-Tucker also suffered a season-ending injury in that game. The Jets improved to 6–3 before finishing the season 7–10. In 2023, expectations shifted again when Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon in Week 1.

Hall, 24, was selected by the Jets in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Iowa State and is now playing the final season of his four-year rookie contract. Once the Jets complete their Week 18 game against Buffalo, he will be eligible to enter free agency.
